LOOP!STATION: ROBIN COOMER & SAM BASS

San Francisco based cello and vocal duo LOOP!STATION has been captivating audiences since 2002 with their dynamic sound. Drawing upon their classical influences, while defying other easy definitions, their innovative use of the newest looping technology enables LOOP!STATION to create visceral compositions that are truly stunning and unique. When performed live these powerfully layered pieces are created new every time.

Using no pre-recorded information or computers, only by deftly stacking and carefully interlocking their own sampled phrases, LOOP!STATION invites you into the performance as the haunting soundscapes pull you into their creation. Whether you are listening to one of their fine studio recordings, or experiencing LOOP!STATION live, you will be engaged from the first phrase to the last. LOOP!STATION is building sonic sculptures, layering angular harmonies into towering conclusions, the result is nothing short of magic.

LOOP!STATION released their fourth album, "Love vs. Love," in 2009. The album features the piece, "All you want," which was commissioned by the Ballet San Jose for a live performance in March of 2009. The ballet performance, entitled "The way we fall," included three separate pieces by LOOP!STATION , and featured LOOP!STATION , live, on stage with the dancers.

In January of 2010, LOOP!STATION wrote and recorded music inspired by pieces in SF MOMA's permanent collection. The new pieces were written and recorded for the SF MOMA's new audio tour. The collaboration between LOOP!STATION and the museum resulted in a gala performance at the SF MOMA's 75th anniversary celebration.

LOOP!STATION has made appearances at the Outside Lands, Bumbershoot and Vegoose music festivals.

Cellist, Sam Bass tours regularly as part of the Les Claypool ensemble.
